About Dr Katherine Black

Dr Kat Black is a Specialist Endocrine and General Surgeon in Brisbane. After completing her medical training at University of Queensland, she undertook specialist surgical training in Queensland to achieve her Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in General Surgery.

 

Following this, Dr Black undertook a further two years of subspecialty training in endocrine surgery. She spent 12 months at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London (UK) where she gained extensive experience in endocrine surgery before returning to Brisbane to advance her skills in breast and endocrine surgery at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Dr Black’s main interest is endocrine surgery and she enjoys managing and performing surgery for thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal conditions. She also performs a range of general surgical procedures such as hernia and gallbladder surgery.

Dr Black is a current member of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), General Surgeons Australia (GSA), Australian and New Zealand Endocrine Surgeons (ANZES) and International Association of Endocrine Surgeons (IAES). As a RACS Queensland State Committee Member, and a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland, she maintains a strong interest in medical education and supporting surgeons in Queensland. She is also actively involved in research and has presented at conferences and authored articles published in peer-reviewed medical journals.

 

Dr Black has a public hospital appointment as a consultant Endocrine Surgeon at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, a major teaching hospital and tertiary referral centre in Brisbane, and works in a private practice at Ramsay Specialist Centre at Greenslopes Hospital.
